About Us

Watts World Revival -

Fifty-nine (59) years ago, the Watts World Revival was organized as an outreach ministry of Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church by the founding Pastor, Rev. F. Douglas Ferrell (who Pastored from October 24, 1945 until his passing July 5, 1982.

Organization

Following the Watts Riots (which “raged” for six days and resulted in millions of dollars’ worth of property damage and was known as the costliest urban rebellion in the civil rights era) Pastor Ferrell was highly concerned for crime and violence among the youth, and for adequate education. He was concerned with the untold destruction, morally, spiritually and economically in the Watts Community and surrounding areas. He developed an outreach ministry involving the members of Tabernacle and called it the Watts World Revival.

Mission

The mission of the Watts World Revival is the development and on-going operation of a comprehensive program founded in and revolving around Christ, with the aim of enabling disadvantaged persons living in communities like Watts, to take their rightful places in the economic and social order of society.

Goals

Pastor Ferrell established many goals during his time, many of which were to improve the lives of the improvised peoples of the Watts Community and the World.

The goals of the Watts World Revival include the following:

  • To be visible and vital in the enterprise zone and communities beyond.
  • To plan and establish an organization capable of developing individual and business concerns for the purpose of generating financial capital and other economic resources to effectuate distribution and consumption of needed goods and services.
  •  To plan and establish a mechanism for identifying community educational, recreational and entertainment needed and to develop a means to meet those needs while impacting the community’s philosophical and ethical values thought the teachings of Jesus Christ.
  •  To plan and establish programs for purposes of educating citizens regarding the importance of political cooperation, and to develop the capability to effectuate political action.

Non-Profit Organization

On August 9, 1989, under the pastorship of Rev. Charles Mims, Jr., the Watts World Revival was organized as a religious charity with five organizing directors to enable this ministry to obtain Federal funds to further our mission. The original goals remained the same.

On August 31, 2011 our tax status changed to a nonprofit public charity. Current programs center around enterprises that provided employment, education, health, nutrition, feeding and the youth of the church.

Watts World Revival continues to be supported by partnerships with other organizations, faithful members of Tabernacle of Faith and friends, who continue to volunteer and provide financial support for various programs.
